Muzzy Broadheads Reviews

Hear from bowhunters across the country who’ve put Muzzy Broadheads to the test in the field and wouldn’t trust anything else in their quiver.

I hunt deep in the Missouri hardwoods, where tree stand placement is tricky and deer don’t give you many second chances. Shots are often fast, tight, and taken at odd angles—perfect conditions for gear failure if you’re not prepared. That’s why I trust the Muzzy MX-4 fixed blade broadheads. I’ve been using them for over a decade now, and they’ve never let me down, even in extreme weather or after repeated impacts. The design is compact and efficient, which gives me great flight characteristics, even with heavier arrows. The 1-1/8" cutting diameter might not sound huge on paper, but the wound channels tell a different story. They hit hard, cut clean, and leave unmistakable trails. One of the most memorable hunts with an MX-4 was during the rut. A massive 10-point buck came cruising by at 35 yards. I took a steep quartering-away shot and the broadhead zipped through ribs, lungs, and lodged in the off-shoulder. The buck didn’t go more than 60 yards before piling up. When I dressed him, the internal damage was incredible—textbook double-lung. I've recovered more deer with these heads than I can count, and I’ve never had one fail to deploy or break on impact. Plus, they’re easy to reassemble and reuse, which makes them affordable for how tough they are. If you're after consistency, bone-crushing durability, and tight flight patterns, there’s nothing better than the MX-4.

I’ve guided elk hunts in some of the roughest terrain the Rockies have to offer, and when it comes to broadheads, I need gear that holds up under pressure. The Muzzy 125 grain broadheads have been my go-to for the past five seasons, and honestly, I wouldn't even consider switching. My clients are often in high-stakes situations—limited opportunities, long hikes into remote areas, and the need for precise, ethical shots. One memory that really stands out is from last October: we had a client take a frontal quartering shot at a bull we’d been tracking for three days. The Muzzy broadhead not only penetrated the front shoulder but exited clean through the flank with a clear blood trail that made recovery fast and clean. What truly sets these heads apart is the combination of weight-forward penetration and rugged construction. I’ve seen them bust through ribs, scapulas, and even heavy brush without deflecting or failing. When I clean the heads post-hunt, I’m often amazed at how intact they remain, even after passing through 700+ pound animals. And don’t even get me started on their field performance—accuracy is dead-on every time. I shoot them year-round to stay dialed in, and they fly nearly identical to my field points. With Muzzy, I get reliability, lethal efficiency, and peace of mind, which is everything when you’re guiding clients whose hunts are often once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

As a wildlife biologist, I spend my weekdays studying movement patterns, feeding behavior, and population health, but my weekends are all about bowhunting. I take an ethical, science-based approach to the field, and that’s why I’m so impressed by Muzzy—specifically the Trocar HBX Hybrid broadheads for crossbows. They’re built with an incredibly smart design: a fixed 1" cutting blade paired with deployable mechanical blades that open to 1-5/8", creating a devastating 2-5/8" cutting surface. That kind of power gives me the confidence to make clean kills, even when the shot angle isn’t perfect. Last season, I was stalking a group of feral hogs that had been damaging a local farmer’s fields. At 40 yards, I loosed a bolt on a large boar and the HBX performed flawlessly. It deployed mid-flight, ripped through the vitals, and left a blood trail that was like something out of a crime scene. The hog dropped within 50 yards. When I retrieved the bolt, I was stunned—the blades were still sharp, the tip hadn’t bent, and the broadhead could’ve gone right back in my quiver. That level of performance and durability is rare, especially for a hybrid. I’ve also tested the HBX in ballistic gel and on game ranging from deer to coyotes, and I always get predictable expansion and deep penetration. It’s the perfect blend of innovation and real-world field effectiveness, and for a data-driven hunter like me, that’s exactly what I need.
